Vallée d'Aoste DOC "Picotendro" 2019 LA Kiuva
The Aosta Valley is incredibly varied in terms of microclimates and terroirs. It is, indeed, a paradise for lovers of diversity in wine. The region is a treasure trove of cool-climate, high-acid, food-friendly wines made mostly from rare local grape varieties that boast a plethora of unique aroma and taste profiles.
Picotendro is a local-subvariety of the great Nebbiolo grape, and some other local red varities are added here at La Kiuva, in Arnad, in the lower part of the Vallée, a cooperative of small farmers specialised in local foods - great cold cuts and cheeses - and wines. This wine is perfect to accompany just that, cheese and cold cuts, but also the occasional polenta, pasta or risotto dish. The minerality of the soil delivers very crisp aromas, on the light end of Nebbiolo, but with typical tannic structure. To be enjoyed between 13° and 15°C temperature.
