The Zanusso family turned their dream of making high-end, natural wines true when finding and acquiring old vineyards growing only on hills (locally known as Clivi, hence the name of the winery) made of the unique mix of clays and rock known as Ponca, which is found only in Friuli. They soon became a reference for quality winemaking in the region. The simple elegance of their labels and their entire portfolio are exquisite!
This Malvasia stems from an 80-year-old vine (hence the name). As Vinous' Eric Guido describes it : "The 2021 Malvasia 80anni opens in the glass with a bouquet that reminds me of a fresh spring morning: due on a new grass, freshly brewed flowers, wet stone and citrus zest. This is sweet, yet expertly balance by juicy acidity as a ripe Orchard fruits, and I need enough florals settled upon the senses. It finishes spicy and crisp with a savoury twang that lingers on. The 80anni is remarkably pretty hailing from 80-year-old vines."
It's a true pleasure already now, and will improve with age!
