"Ghemme Riserva" LA TORRETTA, Ghemme DOCG 2009
"Ghemme Riserva" LA TORRETTA, Ghemme DOCG 2009
The Golden label is well deserved for this incredibly lush, luxuriantly rich wine from 40-year old vines. Their roots reach well below the upper layers of morainic sands and clay, through a layer of lime, and are smoother in taste than most of their younger siblings. The texture is almost solid and the long time in a small oak barrel (500 litres) has smoothed the edges. It contains all the wealth of viola and rose, maraschino and black cherry, plum and chocolate of great Nebbiolo, resting on a comforting base of “manly” flavours such as pipe tobacco, old leather, dark cocoa and tar. It is superb on its own, but we recommend it to finish a meal of serious red meat, in particular venison, during which you enjoyed the “Ghemme Il Motto”. When your stomach is happy but your palate is craving for a finishing touch, or even an after dinner noble drop, this important great red is the perfect conclusion!
