Vermentino di Sardegna DOCG 2021 "Mattariga" Chessa
You may love Vermentino, its aromas and freshness, or you may not. According to ratings, it never scores top, and yet, it is one of those wines that always deliver. (Personally I suspect that critics put it down, as in France it is mainly grown in Corsica).
In the North-west corner of Sardinia, the Chessa family planted Vermentino on lime-rich soil. It is simply speaking, different from most other Vermentino in Sardinia, which is mainly grown on Granit soil.
This wine is such a wonderful expression of its terroir!
Pale yellow in color, this Mattariga reveals aromas and flavors of lemon-peel, flowers and our beloved "macchia mediterranea" - the smell of the wild herbs that surround the limestone-rich vineyards and in Sardinia has such unique scents. Fresh acidity makes this a very versatile food wine - perfect with seafood, and simply superb with Spaghetti alle Vongole!
