Product Details

The Aosta Valley stretches from the plaines of Northern Italy to the great Monte Bianco, or as it is called across the French border, the Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the alps. It is nestled against Switzerland to the east and France North and West, surrounded by snow-capped alpine peaks, while receiving warm air streams from the South. These are perfect conditions for cool-weather wines, and more interestingly, the vines are grown on small terracings on the mountain sides of the valley. Many of the vines are old autochtonous varieties, but also nationally known Nebbiolo and Barbera, and international varieties - such as Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer or Pinot Noir - are giving their best in these lands.

The Picotendro of La Kiuva is made from the local variant of Nebbiolo, blended with a little autochtonous red grapes, in Arnad. This wine speaks of its mountain heritage: subtle, mineral, it lacks the body and strength of the south Pienmonte Nebbiolo, but makes up for it with a very refined mouth feel and enticing nose. A different, yet superb Nebbiolo!
