Paestum is an ancient Greek colony just beyond the Cilento mountain range, which faces the Amalfi coast north.
The San Giovanni winery is located at Punta Tresino just above the Mediterranean sea, nearest town being Castellabate. Here the vines seem to be clinging onto steep, old vineyards, which were recovered from abandonment, overlooking the deep blue sea at only 60 metres above sea level, in the National Park Cilento - Vallo di Diano. They deliver truly unique wines.
The local grapes Fiano (85%), Trebbiano (10%) and Greco (5%) take in the salty sea breeze and the stunning scents and perfumes of the local spontaneous vegetation named "macchia mediterranea". - Thus, with its rich nose and initially soft palate of green apple and pear this wine is off on a straight forward path until the sea and the rocky soils reveal mineral saltiness that makes way to an incredible and truly unique finish of slightly bitter herbs. A uniquely territorial wine from southern Italy.
