Ograde 2016 Skerk
An impressive orange wine, from the rocky borderlands between Italy and Slovenia, close to the Adriatic sea. It starts with a soft whiff of red orange, grapefruit, rose and raspberries, then makes way to pink peaches, apricots and sweet almond, tending to marzipan. Somehow all this is magically leaning on the white rocks and the salt of the nearby sea. The tannins give it remarkable depth. Fantastic on its own, unbeatable with shellfish and lobster!
A blend of local grapes Vitovoska and Malvasia Istriana, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc in equal proportions, it rests on the skins for 2 weeks in oak vats, and is aged for 12 months in large oak barrels. Nonetheless, there is no oakiness, only clean scents of fruit and a little mineral. Superb!
