Freisa d'Asti DOC "Aris" 2017 Crotin 1897
"Aris" is 100% Freisa, an ancient grape variety of Piemonte, which is a "cousin" of the great Nebbiolo, with whom it shares tannins and body, whereas the aromatic palette is less complex and ample. A deep dark red, the older generations would describe it as "vino nero" - literally "black wine". It has plenty to offer - joyful freshness, a strong body, lots of dark berries and fruit, perhaps black olives, a slightly bitter, herbaceous finish, and the tannins soften with a few years ageing. This is the perfect wine for bbq and all sort of grilled meats and veggies, as well as pasta and risotto dishes with meat or cheese.
This is a wine that deserves to be discovered!
