The highest hill in Costigliole d'Asti is named Bricco Lu ("wolf's peak). This is the heart of the Barbera d'Asti appellation, and here the third generation of the Gozzelino family makes three wonderful Barbera d'Asti. A "Ciabot" is a small shed in the vineyards, where tools are kept and the vintners could go to rest when the sun was too high. Next to the Ciabot in this vineyard stands an old almond tree, which announces the arrival of spring with its blossom.

The Barbera from this vineyard is potent, quite austere and a little rustic. It offers lots of red fruit and berries, and a slightly salty aftertaste that perhaps stems from the almonds. One of our favourite Barbera d'Asti!
