Rarely made on its own, Canaiolo is used to add colour and lighten the body of stronger grapes in the classic Chianti blend. At Podere Casaccia, making things as natural as possible means also making wine from this variety alone.

When I asked a well-known winemaker about Canaiolo, his answer was that it is a difficult grape, and rarely makes good wine on its own. So I gave him a bottle of this one to try. A few week later, he was enthusiastic! It is really well made and expresses this grape's potential like no other I tried. Thus we had confirmation of our personal convictions about this wine.

It has a beautiful red robe, hints of fresh flowers and pepper, and a well-balanced, slightly earthy finish. Warm, velvety, enjoyable and made for happy drinking! Only 866 bottles produced in 2017.
