Barone Pazzo - the crazy baron - is a powerful, bold and deep red wine from the heel of Italy. Full-bodied and rich, it maintains juiciness and ripe fruit on the palate making for nice, very approachable drinking. Beware, however, as one sip pulls the next, you may turn into a slightly crazy Baron yourself!

The Primitivo grape, also known as Zinfandel in the USA, owes it name for being the very first vine to blossom in spring (primo = first). This brings about a very interesting development in the grapes: while some are not yet ripe, others on the same bunch are already dried out and very sugary. This combination give Primitivo a combination of strong body and a rich, almost sugary sweetness, which makes for vey easy drinking. The grapes of "Barone Pazzo" are carefully harvested by hand and after fermenting in steel vats, the wine is aged for 12 months in new oak barriques, adding a toasty note to this beautifully fruity and ripe red.

Vetrere is an old estate, dating back to the 17th century. It is now run by to sisters, Francesca and Annamria Bruni. We have selected this beautifully powerful red from their 15 wines, as it is one of the best expressions of this unique, local terroir.
