Product Details

In the mid-1980ies, Barolo was not as widely renowned as it is today. When visiting Giacomo Fenocchio in 1985, he welcomed us warmly, plucked some small, orange peaches from the orchard, disappeared in the cellar for a couple of minutes and returned with 4 or 5 unlabelled bottles. He opened all of them, then cut up the peaches, and we tasted his wine with peaches. It was a heavenly experience!

Now Giacomo's son runs the winery and makes wine, just as he learnt from his father. Lots of care for the grapes and the vineyards, strict selection of the best bunches, careful pressing and long maceration on the skins, normally 40 days.

The result are incredibly rich Barolos, with a powerful body that carries an abundance of fruit, fine spice and amazing complexity.

Castellero is a small vineyard of less than 1 hectare, in Barolo, the heart of the Appellation. The average age of the vines is 30 years. It is classified as 2 level Cru, or in French 2ème Cru Classé. This Barolo Castellero 2016 is a truly great red wine!

The color is classic intense garnet red clean and of good substance on the

nose with floral and fruity notes with a hints of liquorice and a whiff of roots. Wine of character with marked tannins. Velvety and harmonious with notes of sweet spice and jam. Beautiful!
