Product Details

The soil and climate of Alto Piemonte is ideal for Nebbiolo, Vespolina, Croatina and Uva Rara. Barbera, which is the most common red grape in Northern Italy, is rather rare. In our view, the reasons for this are quite simple: the high acidity of the soil lends Barbera, which is already a tart grape, an additional dose of sourness. Gilberto, however, has a way of bringing out the best in this rustic, joyful, versatile variety, by mashing the grapes gently and allowing for rather long fermentation in steel vats. Then Barblin is aged in oak for at least one year and an additional 4 months in the bottle.

So here is a warm, gentle Barbera. A joyful dark red, tending to purple, a beautifully balanced bouquet of clover, nutmeg and cinnamon, wild strawberries and blackberries, very ripe plums, with a pleasant hint of tobacco and vanilla.
